TopView Utility DOS

Released by IBM in 1984, TopView was a text-mode windowed multitasker for the IBM PC, XT, and AT computer. It featured preemptive multitasking, text-based windowed task sessions, overlapping windows, and supports the use of a mouse. In part, it was one of the reasons why overlapping windows were added to Microsoft Windows 2.0. TopView was later overtaken by DesqView, OS/2, and Windows. Trend Micro Chip Away Utility DOS

Released in the early 90s by the Japanese company Trend Micro Devices, Inc (later just Trend Micro), Chip Away Viruses is a DOS based virus scanner that is intended to run from a hardware product built in to a PC motherboard before the system boots. It includes a custom embeddable DOS (called X-DOS), but it can be run from regular DOS. Trend Micro also produced the products PC Rx (A regular software virus scanner), and PC-cillin (a hardware/software combo that keeps critical boot information in a special device). Users sometimes misinterpreted the name "ChipAway Virus" as being a virus itself.

TTY Communications Communications DOS

TTY Communications is a rudimentary dial up/terminal emulation telecommunications package sold with the Texas Instruments Personal Computer.

Turbo Tax, from ChipSoft, was a program that assists people in filing their tax returns.

TurboCAD Graphics Engineering Windows

TurboCAD is a low-cost 2D/3D Computer Aided Design program that competed with AutoCAD and Generic CADD. It was first available for DOS, and later Mac, Windows 3.x, and Windows 9x/NT.

Type Faces Utility DOS

Type Faces is a program that can print word processing documents using a number of fancy fonts. The fonts are rendered graphically so you are not dependent on the fonts included with your printer. At the smaller sizes, the fonts are letter quality. Type Faces supports formatting codes that you can insert in to your documents, such as right justify, centering, and underline.

TypeReader Document Windows

Type Reader, from ExperVision, is an optical character recognition program that features the ability to correctly format complex documents, and the ability to export to a large number of different programs. TypeReader competed with OmniPage.

U.S. Atlas Reference DOS

U.S. Atlas is a computerized world map with thousands of facts and statistics for US counties. Software Toolworks also produced a World Atlas, and a multimedia CD-ROM atlas.

Ulead iPhoto Graphics Windows

iPhoto is a Microsoft Windows based image editor bundled with scanners. It features the ability to adjust scanned photographs in many ways, convert to different color depths, and export to a number of different file formats.

Ulead MediaStudio Graphics Video Audio Windows

MediaStudio is a suite of multimedia editing tools. It includes a video editor, video capture tool, image editor, sound editor, and morphing tool. Also supports video conversion, batch mode operation, and overlays.

Ultimate Deck and Landscape Engineering Windows

Ultimate Deck and Landscape, from Punch! Software, is a simplified 3D CAD program that enables one to easily design custom deck layouts and landscape layouts. It provides a 3D-rendered view with the ability to "walk around" so you can easily view it from all angles. It can also keep track of general costs for all of the elements used in your design.

Ultracalc Spreadsheet CPM

Ultracalc, from Lattice Inc, is an electronic spreadsheet program that was available for CP/M, DOS, and Unix. It includes an algebraic expression analyzer that supports 11 operators and 22 functions. The system employs a menu-driven format and includes an extensive set of prompts, on-line help and error messages. Ultracalc is written in C and was considered highly portable.

UltraCoach PIM Windows

UltraCoach for Windows is a software program developed to aid in fitness and athletic training. It is a training system that allows athletes to simultaneously track up to six different sports. It provides powerful graphing and reporting capabilities and suggests workouts using the athlete's goals, performance, and physiological data. UltraCoach is ideal for cross trainers, triathletes, duathletes, and single sport athletes.

UniForm Utility CPM

UniForm is a utility that provides seamless file access to a wide variety of system-specific CP/M and DOS disk formats, enabling easy transfer of files between otherwise incompatible system.

Unify is a relational database for Unix based systems. There was also a DOS version.

V-Spell, from CompuView, is a spell checking product designed to accompany VEDIT. VEDIT was a powerful, customizable, and portable editor designed for programmers and power users.

Valdocs Word Processor Spreadsheet Graphics Communications CPM

Valdocs is an office suite that was bundled with the Epson QX-10 (and later QX-16) Z80 based computer. It was "WYSIWYG" in that it could display different fonts of different sizes in the editor on the screen. It could also embed images in the document, and print the document to a graphics printer.

Varsity Scripsit Word Processor DOS

Varsity Scripsit is a menu driven, easy to use, low cost word processor sold by Tandy/RadioShack and targeted toward academic users. It features footnotes, built in help, split screen, spell checker, automatic hyphenation, table of contents and keyword index generation, user definable macros, reference markers, paragraph locking, line drawing, and phonetic symbols.
