Unlike common spreadsheets, Javelin features the ability to manage complex relationship models between data and formulas. This gives users the ability to audit and document financial analysis models. Although some might argue that Javelin is more of an analysis tool than a spreadsheet, and defining rules is placed before data entry, one of its model "views" is a spreadsheet view that can be used similarly.

ThoughtWare's Jingle Disk was a stocking stuffer for the computer geek in 1986. It plays several pieces of music on the PC speaker as it animates several winter images. Label Magic is an excellent labeling system that generates professional looking labels in minutes, complete with graphic icons. Part of the program is a utility to let you create your own icons. There is more to this program than logos, however. You can do mailing lists with or without icons. If your printer can handle envelopes, you can print your logo and return address directly on envelopes. You can use it to print letterheads. You can also have alphabetically sorted directory entries. LapLink, from Traveling Software Inc., enables users to easily and quickly move files between two DOS computers using only a serial null-modem cable or a special parallel port connector. No other hardware is needed. Laplink was extremely popular.during the late 80s and early 90s. It was infinitely easier to set up any two arbitrary PCs (often portables or laptops) with LapLink than other methods, such as DOS based networking. MS-DOS 6 bundled a similar set of file transfer tools called INTERLNK and INTERSVR.

Leading Edge Word Processing is an "easy to use", yet full-featured, word processor bundled with Leading Edge computers. It has operational similarities similar to Wang word processing systems. Lightning disk cache, from Personal Computer Support Group, is one of the earlier disk caching programs for MS-DOS IBM PCs and compatibles. It supports read and write caching of both floppy and hard disk drives, and can use EMS memory. as smaller name programs such as Super PC-Kwik.

LinkRight is a serial/parallel port file transfer utility for OS/2, and includes a DOS version. The included LinkRight Cloner tool copies a complete OS/2 partition including boot information. It is similar to LapLink, and can use a "LapLink" parallel cable.

Logictree, From CAM Software, is an easy to use Expert System program that makes decisions based on a programmed "tree" of information.

Lotus 1-2-3 was an early spreadsheet application available for MS-DOS. It became extremely popular in the late 1980s, displacing the former leader VisiCalc. Lotus had difficulties adapting 1-2-3 to the Windows environment, and was overtaken by Microsoft Excel. Spreadsheet functionality was also included in Lotus Symphony. Later versions were included in Lotus SmartSuite.

Agenda is DOS based Personal Information Manager that features customizable categories, and many data retrieval features. It was criticized for not being easy to use and lacking features found in other PIMs. It was replaced by Lotus Organizer.

Lotus Approach, originally from Approach Software Corporation, is a relational database management system. Approach promises "instant productivity" with its WYSIWYG form and report designer, and is compatible with many existing database formats. Approach started off as an independent product, was purchased by Lotus, and later IBM. It was included in Lotus SmartSuite for Microsoft Windows.

Lotus HAL (Human Access Language) is a natural-language querying interface for Lotus 1-2-3 r2. That is, one can enter standard English phrases instead of typing "complex" formulas.
