Dr Halo (1985) 6 Graphics DOS

Dr Halo, by Media Cybernetics, is a DOS based image editor. It was sometimes distributed as a value-added tool with mice or video cards. Multitasking "MS-DOS 4.00" is a developmental version of MS-DOS that was never released to retail consumers. It was eventually licensed to some companies for internal use. Development started in parallel during the DOS 2.x days, and was intended to be the successor to MS-DOS 3.x. It would have competed against Digital Research's Concurrent DOS.

Peachtree Accounting was originally created in 1975 by an Altair dealer, The Computer SystemCenter, in Atlanta, Georgia to help sell Altair computers. That possibly would have made it the first accounting package for personal computers.

R:Base (1985) 6 Database DOS

R:Base, from Microrim and first released in 1983, was a popular relational database that competed with Ashton Tate's dBASE product. R:Base was the first relational database for the IBM PC, also notable as earlier relational databases typically required more powerful hardware. R:Base also includes a form and report generator that is optimized for the capabilities of the IBM PC and features the ability to add or remove fields without losing data or relationships.

IBM Personal Computer BASIC Compiler (1982) 6 DOS OS2

The Personal Computer BASIC Compiler is a BASIC language compiler written by Microsoft and licensed to IBM for use on the IBM Personal Computer. It is mostly compatible with BASIC code written for IBM Cassette/Disk basic, however the compiled code will run much faster and eliminates the need to distribute source. Compiled programs do not require IBM BASIC in ROM.

Norton Anti-Virus (1990) 5 Utility DOS Windows

Originally written by Symantec and sold as Symantec Antivrus for Macintosh, it became part of the "Norton" branded products sold by Symantec after they acquired Peter Norton Computing. Norton Anti-Virus became a popular product on DOS, Windows, and Macintosh (SAM was renamed to NAV in 1998) and battled the then-new threat of malicious software. In 2015, Symantec unified their security product lineup under the single "Norton Security" product. It was also bundled with Norton SystemWorks.

LapLink (1987) 5 Communications DOS

LapLink, from Traveling Software Inc., enables users to easily and quickly move files between two DOS computers using only a serial null-modem cable or a special parallel port connector. No other hardware is needed. Laplink was extremely popular.during the late 80s and early 90s. It was infinitely easier to set up any two arbitrary PCs (often portables or laptops) with LapLink than other methods, such as DOS based networking. MS-DOS 6 bundled a similar set of file transfer tools called INTERLNK and INTERSVR.
