WordPerfect 5.0 (DOS)

During the late 1980's, WordPerfect was THE standard word processor for DOS based PCs in big business. Under DOS, it competed mostly against Wordstar. WordPerfect for Windows enjoyed some success in the early Windows environments, but was quickly displaced by Microsoft Word for Windows. Later Windows versions were part of Borland Office/Novell PerfectOffice/Corel Office/Corel WordPerfect Office.

WordPerfect 5.0 was first released on May 5, 1988. The initial release, had a known bug in the installer, as several files were removed at the last minute.

Version 5.0 supports type-setting quality printing on laser printers, new graphics handling features, and a graphical WYSIWYG print preview.

This was followed by many minor 5.0 updates, identified by the file date stamps.

5.0 does not have menus, or any discoverable way to use its functionality. You must read the manuals, and apply the function key overlay to your keyboard.
