Disk Technician Advanced 3.x

Disk Technician, from Prime Solutions Inc., is a hard disk utility and surface monitor. It contains an interleave adjuster and pattern tester similar to Spinrite. The Gold version also includes a defragmenter and disk-level virus protection.

Its primary strength was its ability to test for problems before they arose, by finding weak sectors and relocating data before it became a problem. It could also lay down a fresh low-level format without the need to back up and reinstall everything.

Hilariously, an advertisement in the May 1985 Byte Magazine refers to the product as an "Advanced AI pattern recognition and expert system." People were trying to cash in on that buzzword even back in 1985.

Disk Technician Advanced is a DOS-based disk data recovery and data loss prevention tool. It can refresh the low level format on MFM drives, and test for potential bad sectors. It was targeted primarily towards non technical users. In many respects it is similar to Spinrite. One notable difference, is that DTA keeps a history and performs different tests based on that history.
