PC Paintbrush (1984) 12 Graphics DOS Windows

ZSoft PC Paintbrush is a bitmap drawing program visually similar to MacPaint. The earlier DOS versions were often bundled with Microsoft and Microsoft compatible mice, and were notable for supporting a huge variety of video adapters. Originally called Draw Applause, Applause is a slide making, charting, and presentation program for DOS from Ashton-Tate. It also served as a client front end to Ashton Tate's Graphics Service, through which one could purchase high-quality prints. Applause II beefs up the standalone desktop presentation and graphing abilities.

ColorRIX is a simple mouse-driven painting program for DOS. It features the ability to easily work with pallets and gradients. It was bundled with some video cards, and supported many custom resolutions. VGA Paint, on standard IBM VGA hardware, supports an undocumented 360x480 256 color mode.

Tempra is a DOS based image editor that featured support for 32k/64k/24-bit color editing and the ability to edit very large images. It positioned itself as a very high end image editor although it was not very feature-rich. It was bundled with some high-end video cards. Those versions were limited to run only with the manufacturer's card or chipset.

DeluxePaint Animation is a raster based animation program based on the DeluxePaint painting program. It features ease of use, powerful drawing functionality, and a playback utility. As a DOS program, it was limited to 640k and 320x200 resolution in 256 colors.

SuperCalc (1983) 32 Spreadsheet Graphics DOS CPM

SuperCalc was a spreadsheet application published by Sorcim in 1980, and originally bundled (along with WordStar) as part of the CP/M software package included with the Osborne 1 portable computer. It quickly became the de facto standard spreadsheet for CP/M and was ported to MS-DOS in 1982. It competed against spreadsheets such as VisiCalc, Multiplan. and Lotus 1-2-3.
