LapLink Gold (9.0)

LapLink, from Traveling Software Inc., enables users to easily and quickly move files between two DOS computers using only a serial null-modem cable or a special parallel port connector. No other hardware is needed. Laplink was extremely popular.during the late 80s and early 90s. It was infinitely easier to set up any two arbitrary PCs (often portables or laptops) with LapLink than other methods, such as DOS based networking. MS-DOS 6 bundled a similar set of file transfer tools called INTERLNK and INTERSVR.

Laplink was also bundled with CommWorks.

Release notes

For Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4/2000

Around 2000 LapLink rebranded as "LapLink Gold", with no version number. A setup file in this archived version identifies it as version "9.0", although the application GUI oddly reports the version as "3.1".

This product comes after "LapLink 7.5" (1996), and falls between "LapLink 2000" (v8.0 in 1999) and "LapLink Gold 10" (2001).

LapLink Gold adds support for their proprietary USB to USB LapLink cable. It also features remote desktop control and communications encryption. However, by this time most people were using networking for file transfers and Windows XP would add Remote Desktop.
