Omnis Quartz (Win)

Omnis, from the European based Blyth Software, is an easy to use multiuser relational database for Windows, MacOS, and OS/2. It was the first database ported to Microsoft Windows, which ran on Windows 1.0x.

It started out on the Apple Macintosh, where its prominent feature was a graphical oriented system that integrated with the underlying database. However, on the PC platform, its reliance on Microsoft Windows hurt it, as few people had Windows 1 or 2, and most PC database products of the time only required MS-DOS.

Release notes

Omnis "Quartz" is port of Omnis 3 for Macintosh to Microsoft Windows. One might consider it as "Omnis 4", however as a brand new port it may have been somewhat experimental and not fully on par with Omnis 3. It appears there was no Omnis "Quartz" (or Omnis 4) for Macintosh. Omnis Quartz was followed by Omnis 5, which was available for Windows, Macintosh, and OS/2.

This release bundles Windows 2.03 runtime disks, however it is designed to run under Windows 1.x.

Installation instructions

Installation: To install, run INSTALL.EXE from Omnis Quartz Program Disk Number 1.

Important: The Windows 2.03 runtime (Stand Alone Edition) disks in the release posted below are unusable. They are missing some files and will not install. They may have been distributed like this or a user may have modified them. Use an existing Windows 1 or 2 installation instead.

Usage note: In this version, Procedures are referred to as "Sequences" and can only be added to menus. To execute code from a form, the form calls a menu sequence.
