FrameMaker 3.x

FrameMaker, originally from Frame Technology Corporation and later Adobe, is a professional document system for creating large, complex documents with highly structured layout. It was often accompanied by FrameReader.

FrameMaker was originally designed on early SUN workstations to showcase their graphical. abilities. Although it has similarities to desktop publishing tools, FramMaker is specifically geared towards very complex technical documents, including support for equations, complex tables, indexes, cross references, very large documents, and very consistent text flow. It was commonly used in the fields of science, mathematics, aerospace, government, and military.

It primarily competed with Interleaf, another high end technical publishing tool for Unix. IT competed less directly with common desktop publishing tools such as Ventura Publisher, Aldus Page Maker, and Quark Xpress.
