Windows 95 OSR 2.5 ISO from this site, does not work.

edited March 2017 in Software
I just downloaded the Windows 95 OSR 2.5 ISO from the archive tonight and it doesn't seem to work.

- I put in the win 95 boot floppy, and when it asks for set up disk 1 or the windows CD, I put the cd with the burnt image in, but it asks again.

- When I go back into DOS 6.22 and navigate to the D drive and do DIR /W

All I get is "[PROGRA~1] [RECAN~1.EXE] [WIN386.SWP]"

No matter where I navigate, I cannot find anything named "Setup.exe" or anything like that, and RECAN~1.EXE says it needs to run under Windows 32 bit?

What is going on?

Maybe a bad or misnamed ISO?

At least, there is no problem on "Win95_OSR25.ISO" to install.
This is over-dumped, but it is dumped from Microsoft Geniune OEM CD.

Original ISO size : 617,308,160 bytes
    SHA1 : 97f66e77445cd4b1ac55508c36d0fdbc17f17f25

The ISO file size of Win95_OSR25.ISO on WW is 618,229,760, but no problem to install.

This Windows 95 can't be installed as Upgrade if MS-DOS or any version of Microsoft Windows is installed on HDD.
To install this on HDD, you should boot Windows 95 boot with CD-ROM driver.
Then initialize HDD by FORMAT.COM (FORMAT C:) and run SETUP on A:
  • I just downloaded an image for a Windows 95 OSR 2.5 boot disk, I think that should solve my problems.

I already installed MS-DOS 6.22 with floppies, all three of them, and Windows 95 RTm with floppies, all 21 of them.

I guess tomorrow it'll be time to format the hard drive again, and do a clean install using this boot disk.

    Thanks, Thinkpadman.

I have a feeling once I post what I bought last night, you will explode in your pants! Just wait.

I attached the screenshot of Windows 95 OSR 2.5

You can download bootdisk for Windows 95 OSR 2.x with CD-ROM support.

  • Thanks, Thinkpadman.
