MSFN site going away?

edited August 2017 in Software
Had not pulled up the old MSFN forums in a while and just happened to notice this announcement:

http://www.msfn.org/board/announcement/ ... gust-2017/

"MSFN will be taken offline 12 August 2017.
Archive and backup what is important to you. We apologize for such a short notice but we can't do anything about it. Best regards MSFN"

They don't give any more info, but that sounds like the site is going away. That is really too bad, because they have some very useful Win9x / NT information on their forums.

  • Thank goodness for the Internet Archive as they have a very recent backup of msfn.org:https://web.archive.org/web/20170810180816/http://www.msfn.org
  • But do they have every single page of the forums? From my experience, they only archive a handful.

Unless archive.org has changed their policies, a domain squatter could easily pop up with a robots.txt that forces all archive pages to be removed.
  • Unless I'm reading this wrong, it looks like archive.org is going to start ignoring robots.txt:

Link does not work. "You do not have permission" error.

Don't get too panicked. MSFN will be staying around another month, but they are asking for donations to help keep them running. That's why that post isn't accessible anymore.

Whew! Thought that I had almost no time to archive the more important threads(like the flash 8 hack for Win95). Maybe they are already bankru- I mean paying to be in the ""fast lane"".
