Internet On Windows 3.11 In VPC2007?

edited January 2017 in Software
I installed Windows 3.11 in VPC2007 a few weeks ago, installed video & sound drivers, and some apps(like MS Office 4.3), and now I want to get my Windows VM on the Internet. I have installed the tcp32b.exe file (not sure were I put the files it makes), and Internet Explorer 5 for Windows 3.x. But I cannot get onto the Internet. I need a driver for the DEC 21140 that VPC2007 emulates. But the drivers I've tried do not work when I installed them using the Network setup. If someone has a driver for the DEC 21140, and maybe some other web browsers for Windows 3.11, that would be great, Thanks

  • Why not just use 86Box? lol
  • Use VMWare or VirtualBox - VPC 2007 is no longer developed or supported.

Both VMWare and VBox have the option to emulate a AMD PCNet NIC which WfW 3.11 does have a driver for.

VBox is great for Windows NT-based OS's, and usually I use VBox because it's open source but DOS-based Windows is just a pain on VirtualBox.
So, I recommend VMware for Win 3.x.
  • I got the drivers to install on VPC2007. I have Opera 3.62 and Netscape 4.07, they work great but can't open any new sites. I will use VBox soon
  • For VirtualBox I will direct you to this neat set of posts from Noah Petherbridge on various performance improvements with it. The content was originally from 2009 but it still applies even with VirtualBox 5.x.
