I think these files were not dumped correctly, as I'm unable to use them on any Mac emulator, especially tried to use them in vMac Mini.

I scanned deeply each file with a HEX editor and they look like disk images formatted for Mac, but unlike the other system files, are saved in IMG files rather than image files and do not have a fixed image size, 5.x images are apparently compressed as opposed to the other images which are in correct image sizes (400k, 800k, 1440k).

If these are compressed, am I missing something before I am able to use them? Now if they are corrupt, I report them as an issue.

Thank you very much for your time.

  • Thanks for pointing those out. They are corrupt.

Specifically they are Apple Diskcopy compressed "NDIF" images, but the Mac resource forks have been lost. There is no known way to recover such files.

    I'll mark them for removal.
  • Oh, that sucks. I really wanted to collect all Mac System Software (0-7), but I've been unable to find any 5.x version at all.

I'll leave a request for these if it's not a problem. Thank you.
  • I know, the problem is no one ever really looks at this stuff. There were a pile of other similarly corrupt ones I unlinked recently - and they had all been sitting out there for ages. The worst part is people probably saw them and assumed they were appropriately archived and happily threw out old disks and such.
