Day or Month first?

edited July 2017 in Hardware
On my Compaq Deskpro EN "Compaq Computer Corporation Setup Uility", there is an option to view "System Information". And a little DOS-like window appears (the configuration utility [bios] does have a DOS-like interface. The "System Information Window" says this:
Product Name: Compaq Deskpro EN Series
Processor Type: Pentium(R) II processor 400 MHz
Processor Speed: 400/100 MHz
.....

System ROM Date: 02/08/99

...................

What I can't figure out is if it means, February 8th, 1999 or August 2nd, 1999.

So I cannot figure out if the day or the month is first in that numerical date.

My windows 7 "superbar" is telling me it is 7/5/2017, meaning July 5th, of 2017. But I have seen some numerical dates put the day before the month.

I am attempting to date this machine, the fact that it has a Pentium 2, especially at 400Mhz does want me to put in in early 1999 so February, considering the Pentium 3 wasn't out until very late in 1999, but I want to be sure.

  • If it was made for North America, it's probably MM/DD/YYYY. Europe uses the DD/MM/YYYY style more often than the New World.
