Framework (1984) 7 Word Processor Spreadsheet Graphics Communications Database DOS

Originally created by Forefront Corporation for Ashton-Tate and first released in 1984, Framework was an early integrated office suite for DOS. It has a built in word processor, spreadsheet, database, outliner, graphing, and telecommunications.

FreeHand (1988) 2 Graphics Publishing MacOS Windows

FreeHand is a vector based drawing program used to create illustrations. It is similar to CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator. Initially it offered more features and flexibility than illustrator. It was created by Altsys, sold through Aldus, then sold to Macromedia, and then finally was assimilated by Adobe. Later versions repositioned itself as a content creation system for the web through Flash. The final version was Freehand MX (version 11) in 2003.

Freelance Graphics (1985) 5 Presentations Graphics DOS OS2 Windows

GCI/Lotus/IBM Freelance Graphics is a vector based presentation and graphing package developed for DOS, OS/2, and Windows. It was intended for use alongside Lotus 1-2-3. Later versions were part of SmartSuite. Before it was acquired by Lotus it was known Freelance, from Graphic Communications.

Full Impact is an advanced, easy-to-use, high performance spreadsheet from Ashton-Tate. Compared to other spreadsheets of the time, its main advantage was superior graphing abilities. Full Impact sold alongside other Ashton-Tate products such as dBase, Applause, and FullWrite.

GEM Desktop Publisher, from Digital Research, is a GEM 3.x based Desktop publishing program. It is not as sophisticated as Ventura Publisher. It uses a VMM (Virtual Memory Manager) in place of EMS/XMS, and requires a hard disk. It can be used with GEM Artline to provide illustrations.

GEM Graph (1985) 0 Presentations DOS

GEM Graph is an easy to use, but simplistic, tool for creating presentation graphs. It runs within the GEM Desktop, has a very Macintosh-like user interface, and was sold alongside the GEM Desktop product. It can import lotus (*.wks) spreadsheets and others.

Harvard Spotlight (1994) 0 Presentations Windows

Harvard Spotlight is a presentation utility for organizing and presenting graphs from Harvard Graphics, and graphics from Lotus Freelance. It features the ability to show one screen to the presenter, and a different screen to those viewing the presentation. The presenter can see stored speaking notes and timing information on-screen as they run the presentation.

Hollywood (1990) 0 Presentations Windows

"Hollywood", created by Publishing Solutions Inc and sold by IBM, was a flashy business presentation program for Windows 3.0. It features many easy to create visual effects, vector drawing, data graphing, and an outliner. Even under pre-TrueType Windows 3.0 it supports rescaleable fonts providing sharp large printed text. with the intent to complete a version for OS/2 Presentation Manager. Home Finance System is a financial record keeper targeted at home and small business users. It features easy access to multiple accounts, and keeps track of checking, asset, and credit accounts. It started out around 1983 as a program for Heath/Zenith CP/M systems. Interestingly, Home Finance System III includes executables for both IBM PC and Zenith Z-100 Series computers.

IBM Business Management Series (1984) 0 Financial DOS

The IBM Business Management Series (BMS) is an IBM PC based accounting package targeted at small and medium sized businesses. It consists of six modules, or as IBM called them "editions": Inventory Accounting, Order Entry and Invoicing, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger. The system can be used with any single module, or multiple modules can work together. The Business Management Series can interface with the Personal Decision Series. It was criticized as being too costly, bloated, and overly complicated.
