Framework (1984) 0 Word Processor Spreadsheet Graphics Communications Database DOS

Originally created by Forefront Corporation for Ashton-Tate and first released in 1984, Framework was an early integrated office suite for DOS. It has a built in word processor, spreadsheet, database, outliner, graphing, and telecommunications.

FrontRunner (1988) 0 DOS

FontRunner, from Apex Software, is a dBase application compiler that specialized in making small, fast, terminate-and-stay-resident database applications. This makes it possible for DOS application users to call up data entry screens without the need to exit the program they are running. It supports redefinable keyboard macros, and can copy data from a DOS application screen into its database. To reduce memory usage it omits dBase's reporting and label generating capabilities. Version 1.2 and later support EMS memory usage.

FT Pro (1991) 0 Database DOS

FT/Pro, from Block Development Corporation, is a form editor/designer that makes use of VGA graphics. It is capable of importing forms from FormTool. FT/Pro contains an extensive set of powerful drawing tools. It supports variable sizes, colors, typefaces, graphic images, and can print high quality forms on laser printers.

GroupWise (1997) 0 Communications PIM Server DOS

Originally created by WordPerfect Corp in 1987 as WordPerfect Office (groupware), and acquired by Novell in 1994 where it became GroupWise, GroupWise is a cross-platform collaboration platform that includes email, calendaring, personal information management, instant messaging, and document management.

HyperDOS (1990) 0 Utility PIM DOS

HyperDOS is a simplistic menu shell bundled with Leading Technology PCs and offered as a standalone commercial product. It includes a file manager, built in help, and a number of accessories. It tries to clone the general appearance of the IBM PS/1 shell. Oddly, it starts off in a GUI mode, but all of the tools are text mode programs. Version 2.0 includes the ability to use sound cards.

HyperPad (1990) 0 DOS

HyperPAD is a programming tool for DOS that mimics Apple's HyperCard. HyperPAD Programs are created visually, with menus and buttons on a set of pages, in an object-oriented environment. Applications are compiled and run within the HyperPAD operating environment. It is geared towards rapid application development of user interfaces, databases, and prototypes.

InfoCentral (1994) 0 PIM DOS

InfoCentral is Personal Information Manager that can create and store outlines, calendars, contacts, and todo lists using an object-oriented tree structure. It features a customizable database, can "connect" to information from other windows programs, a built-in dialer, and bundles several pre-populated reference "ibases". purchased by Novell, and later owned by Corel. It was initially part of WordPerfect's "Main Street" software family. Software Inc Ecco Professional.

Instant Artist / Print Artist (1992) 5 Graphics Publishing Novelty DOS

Instant Artist, later renamed to Print Artist, is a greeting card and sign creation program that uses vectorized graphics. It was created by The Pixellite Group, the original authors of The Print Shop, and published in 1992 by Autodesk. It was later sold by Sierra On-line. It features a high quality set of generic reusable clip art. The clip art uses vector based technology that was also used in BannerMania.

Agenda is DOS based Personal Information Manager that features customizable categories, and many data retrieval features. It was criticized for not being easy to use and lacking features found in other PIMs. It was replaced by Lotus Organizer.

Lotus Approach (1992) 6 Database DOS

Lotus Approach, originally from Approach Software Corporation, is a relational database management system. Approach promises "instant productivity" with its WYSIWYG form and report designer, and is compatible with many existing database formats. Approach started off as an independent product, was purchased by Lotus, and later IBM. It was included in Lotus SmartSuite for Microsoft Windows.

Lotus Symphony is a an integrated software program that combines five tools: spreadsheet - word processing, graphics, database management, and data communications - in one package. The spreadsheet has similar functionality to Lotus 1-2-3, however it uses a different software "engine". These releases are of the original suite produced by Lotus. It targeted the lower end and first time computer buyers. It competed against other all in one office suites such as FrameWork, PFS First Choice, and Microsoft Works

MemoryMate is an easy to use memory-resident free-form database. It automatically indexes content so all you have to do is type in a keyword to find your record. As a free-form database, you can use it much like a Personal Information Manager, but you can use it for any kind of data you want. You can set it to show you "reminders" at a certain date.

SPI Open Access is a DOS based integrated office suite that includes a database, word processor, spreadsheet, statistical analysis, graphics, telecommunications and a C style custom application programming language. Open Access was among the early integrated office suites. Its primary strength was for network use, as multiple users could open and edit the same documents.
