I'm going to guess it would. Though I've honestly never heard of WinXP MCE 2004, I thought MCE was MCE 2005, and that was it. But anyway, it's an MCE key, it should work. If it doesn't work for Windows Setup, either skip the product key portion if possible, or use the key in X:\I386\UNATTEND.TXT (X: is your CD/DVD drive).

Basically, use whatever will get you through Windows Setup, and then once you install XP, set up the AntiWPA3 patch so you don't have to activate it. After that, use the Windows XP Product Key Update tool (keyupdatetool_enu_x86.exe, or something of the like) which will allow you to use pretty much any valid XP code, regardless of minor version changes.

At least that's how it's worked for me. I can't use a Dell OEM XP key during setup of XP/SP3 (retail), but I can patch that key in afterwards and get a system that passes WGA, along with the AntiWPA3 patch.

(If you need either the AntiWPA3 patch, or the product key update tool, PM me.)

If my hard drive was bigger i would just put windows 7 starter on my laptop. The hard drive is only 20gb and with windows xp home edition i only have 10gb left. I tried windows 7 starter on there before but after all the updates and stuff i only had 5gb hard drive space left.

Win7 Starter is a joke, it probably wouldn't run any faster than Win7 HP or Pro.

You can easily run XP on a 20GB drive. You could run XP on a 10GB drive, which might be cutting it close, but really, the OS takes up like 2.5GB. A laptop designed for MCE2004 would likely run XP Pro much better than Win7 Starter.

I mean, really, you can just burn an ISO of XP Pro, use whatever key, then follow my above instructions with whatever OEM key you want ;)

really, it actually runs better than Win7 Home Premium? I never thought there was any significant difference between Microsoft's differently branded copies of the same product.

I would much rather run XP than Win7 starter if I had a choice, but that may just be me.

Windows 7 starter strips out/disables a lot of components; a lot of said components are also resource intensive (Aero, et al). Granted it also imposes restrictions that's just showing their money-hungry side (like you can't change the wallpaper? The PC's not personal anymore?).

We run 7 starter on our netbook at work (it shipped with it); for basically running a VNC server and PuTTY, it does the job. I wouldn't want to use it for anything more though.

I put windows 7 starter on my wife netbook since it's a single core atom cpu running at 1.6ghz and only has 1gb of memory and that's all it will take. She just uses for going online like facebook and watches movies from dvd or files. i tried Win7 Home Premium and it ran lot slower. win7 starter it does start up a lot faster then it did with windows xp.

I wouldn't bother with starter, I'd just do my own tweaks and pairing down of the OS. Then I don't have unnecessary restrictions and could possibly achieve the same or similar performance.

the best serials i came across whilst installing win95 and the old office 97 were

00100-0123456-00100
111-123456

the office one i think is right, if its not its either 000 or 0100? very easy to get right though!

love the site

For almost all Microsoft software that require XXX-XXXXXXX serial keys to install, 000-0000000, 111-1111111, 111-1111112, or 777-7777777 is one of the serial keys.

Source 1: (I remember a comment on the download page for a pirated copy of Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 on The Pirate Bay that you just have to type all zeros for the serial, but I don't know the exact download page which had that comment)
Source 2: http://opensourcerules.info/cdkey.html (->Traditional CD Keys)

Guys, there is a universal serial for all of the xxx-xxxxxxx keys:

335-3353356

This key works on every Microsoft product with that key format, and is the key given to MSDN and TechNet subscribers.

For computers that can't run the full version of Windows 7? Wait a minute, I thought there's no computer in today's market that can't run the full version of Windows 7 but can run Windows 7 Starter. Probably all editions of Windows 7 (including Starter and Ultimate) work with only a 350MHz 32-bit x86 processor and 512MB RAM (even though Microsoft says 1GHz 1GB for all editions except Starter), but Windows 7 Starter is just designed as the fastest edition of Windows 7 to be installed by OEMs on the slowest computers that can run it. However, the only features which are only in Windows 7 that the Starter edition has are "Homegroups" and "Jump Lists", otherwise even Windows XP is better than Windows 7 Starter.

I've spent a lot of time trying all these serial keys with the copy of Windows 98 (First Edition) from wdl1.winworldpc.com, but only MMHK7-QPHQG-KMTP9-7GTJY-JQ6XM worked for me, so that key should be first priority.

Really, wow that's kind of pathetic, I apologize for the inaccurate keys.

Well to be honest we don't need a whole ton of Win98, et al., keys because you can reuse one indefinitely. well thanks for clarifying that though, if I get a chance I can upload some more keys I have on actual Win98 COAs.
